Guitar Heroes

Guitar Heroes: Bryan Adams ‘Run To You’.

I still remember my adolescene in the early 80s as a time when rock and pop were king. One of its biggest stars, and surprisingly still going strong, is Canadian rocker Bryan Adams. He rose to fame with his 1983 album, Cuts Like a Knife and turned into a worldwide superstar with his 1984 album Reckless. Both these albums left an important and impressionable mark on my love for classic rock. Now considered timeless classics, both these albums produced some of Adams biggest hits like Summer of ’69, Cuts Like A Knife, Straight From The Heart, Run To You and Heaven.

Often when I am asked to name my favourite Bryan Adams song, I really have a difficult time trying to narrow it down to just one. But if you were to twist my arm upwards behind my back I’d probably scream out Run To You. Why? Well, because I think it really works as a cool guitar song. In particular, I love the guitar hook (which the song is based around), the wail of the lead guitar and Adams throaty vocals especially during the song’s energetic chorus.

In short, Run To You was originally written for a band called Blue Öyster Cult. But when the group turned down Adams song about ‘illicit love’ he released it on his fourth album Reckless (1984) but not before almost leaving it off the album. Many of those closest to Adam believed it had the potential to be a great song. And so, changing his mind about it, it would eventually go onto serve as the first of six singles on one of the greatest albums of the 80s. By the way, Run To You would conquer both Canadian and US charts in late 1984.

  1. Great song! I am seeing him in concert in May. Looking forward to it.

  2. Bryan Adams is one of my first favourite musicians, and this is a great track. I never knew it was originally written for Blue Oyster Cult!
